Campaign Update

My public service has always recognized and responded to a situation that needed to be addressed. Such was the case when the Fast Train (now known as Brightline) was first proposed.

Fears and confusion quickly went through our communities. To get to the facts and determine what we could do to protect our communities Penny Chandler, then President of the IRC Chamber of Commerce, and I formed a very large Train Impact Coalition (TIC) bringing in many organizations from throughout our county. As word spread, groups in St. Lucie and Brevard counties also joined us.

We were fortunate to include in our Coalition a Vero Beach resident, Tom Gruber, who had extensive railroad experience with a similar project in Massachusetts. Since the issues involved the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) his guidance was integral to our work.

There were many meetings throughout the County and our cities during this time and we identified how to best move forward and respond to the federal agencies accordingly. I was also in touch with State and Federal Representatives for their assistance.

Tom Gruber recently wrote:

"During these many meetings, Honey was always very concerned about how this project would impact the Vero residents. I might also say, that as I viewed Honey’s interests during my time in the area, that she fought tirelessly to improve the quality of life in Vero. She attended many key Vero and county meetings in her quest to meet that goal, and always seemed to have an excellent handle on the issues at hand."

In this regard there remain specific safety and environmental issues with Brightline and the freight trains going through our city. It is my sincere commitment to address these issues should I be elected to serve on City Council.

Please consider a donation to my campaign. These funds will provide for the outreach I need to get the attention of City voters.

Individual Contributions may be made in any amount up to $1,000.
